This event aimed to integrate society into the construction of a vision for the future of Amazonian cities, exploring how dialogue between contemporary technologies and traditional knowledge can offer innovative and collaborative solutions.
In a context where the climate challenge demands urgent and creative responses, the contribution of MIT, in collaboration with Amazonian institutions, was central to the discussion.
The event was structured in two parts: first, a series of lectures addressing the challenges and opportunities for the region’s urban future; followed by a practical workshop focused on utopias and urban planning.
At the invitation of LabCidade, I had the opportunity to reflect on how utopias can act as critical and transformative tools for (re)thinking urban spaces and imagining alternative futures for Amazonia. This reflection is part of the writing I am developing on a utopia of cities on water. At the same time, it represents an opportunity for us, Amazonians, to take responsibility for imagining and designing our own future.
The aim was to connect training in Architecture and Urbanism with the contemporary dilemmas and possibilities of Amazonia, highlighting the importance of integrating knowledge and practices capable of shaping the cities of the region in more sustainable and innovative ways.
