For Sonic Street Technologies

This playlist of electronic music from Pará, Brazil, was curated to accompany the article and photo essay The music Technology of urban Amazonia, which explores the world of aparelhagens in Belém.

Aparelhagens are amazonian sound systems, mobile setups that combine powerful speakers, vibrant light displays, and a deep sense of community.

These apparatuses embody the cultural energy, creativity, and regional identity of Brazil’s urban Amazonia.

This playlist is part of my research within the Sonic Street Technologies (SST) project — a European Research Council (ERC) based at Goldsmiths, University of London. As part of this project, I investigate aparelhagens to explore the social, economic, and cultural conditions that give rise to and are expressed through these Amazonian sound systems.

This playlist is regularly updated with new tracks to reflect the evolving music scene.
